Louro is a southwest-facing sand-bottom beachbreak on the Costa da Morte, one of Galicia's most dramatic and exposed stretches of Atlantic coast. The beach produces shifting a-frame peaks that break hollow and fast over a shallow sandbank, with vertical takeoffs demanding a committed approach and quick feet. The wave works on most tides, offering consistent options as the sand redistributes across the cycle, though the outgoing tide can sharpen the hollow sections and accelerate the walls. It comes alive on SW through NW swells of 0.9 meters and above, with a NE offshore wind grooming the faces to perfection. Extreme SW swells and large NW pulses are the optimum, sending lines marching into the bay with enough organisation to stack up on the banks. The surrounding environment is strikingly beautiful and almost entirely undeveloped, making it feel remote even in summer. Free parking is available and camping is possible nearby, though there are no showers, restrooms, surf school or surf shop on site.
