Surf spot guide Β· Northland, New Zealand
Furthest west of Ahipara's seven lefts β steep, fast, hollow, and a real trek to reach. Experts only.
Dangerous Conditions
Dangerous conditions with waves up to 4.0m and energy levels reaching 3274 kJ. Peak conditions around 9:00 PM.
Extremely hazardous surf conditions. Only experienced surfers should consider entering the water. Strong currents, large waves, and powerful energy present. Warning valid until 9:00 PM.
Blue House is the westernmost and most wind-exposed of Ahipara's seven left-hand point sections, sitting at the outer edge of one of New Zealand's longest wave systems. The wave is steep, fast, and hollow - a meaningful step up in intensity from the mellower inner sections. SE winds are more offshore here than at the rest of the points, which means Blue House can be firing when cross-shore conditions shut down the other sections. The wave works well at higher tides and handles 2 to 3m with authority. The main barrier is access: reaching Blue House requires either a long trek around the outer point or a 4WD at low tide along the beach - but many vehicles get stuck, so approach with caution. The remote location keeps crowds low even on good days, and the expert-only nature of the wave ensures those who do make it out are competent. Rip currents and submerged reef are the primary hazards along this exposed stretch.
