Open beachbreak north of Rabat that finds peaky little summer banks but shuts down once the swell gets serious.
Plage des Nations is an exposed beachbreak about 20 kilometres north of Rabat, on a long sandy stretch fronting the village of Sidi Bouknadel. The wave is a classic A-frame, breaking over sand and running medium-paced through soft, well-covered shoulders rather than barrelling. It comes alive in small W to N swells in the 0.3 to 1.2m range, when the sandbars produce peaky, broken-up peaks suited to performance surfing. Push the size much beyond head-high and the bank loses definition and walls up into long close-outs. Best results come with a clean easterly offshore on the incoming tide, though it ticks over on all stages. Strong currents run the length of the beach, which is the main reason the lineup stays manageable even on the rare good days. Access is straightforward off the coast road, with no formal facilities at the break. The nearby river-mouth spots at Mehdiya and Doura usually take priority when a real swell arrives.
