It is known for its long, playful left-handers with a friendly, workable face that offers less intense drops, making it suitable for intermediate to advanced surfers and for those seeking a more relaxed surf session. The wave delivers long rides with multiple sections and works best on a low to mid tide, especially when other nearby breaks become too steep or crowded. The reef is mostly deep but can be sharp and shallow at lower tides, so caution is still advised. Nungas performs best with a medium to large southwest swell and light easterly winds. The spot is less crowded than Lakey Peak, providing a more relaxed lineup, and access is typically by boat or a challenging paddle from the beach.

Wear booties
Surf here when other breaks are too steep or crowded.

Clean early mornings
The peak sits in front of Ali's Bar, about a kilometre north of Lakey Peak on the walk out towards Periscopes.

Respect locals
Nungas needs more size than the Peak to switch on, and it does not like too much south in the afternoon trades.

On its day it grooms 200 metre lefts with alternating barrel and turn sections, which is why people call it a mini G-Land.

It can be surfed on all tides, so it is a real option when the Peak is draining at low water.

Long paddle out can be tiring
Strong currents run through the bay and become a real problem once the swell gets large, so local advice is worth having on a big day
The reef is uneven and gets very shallow at lower tides, with boils marking the shallow patches
Nungas needs more size than Lakey Peak before it works, so the days it is good are the days the whole area is big
