Sucky Mamas, also known as Sukanamon or "Suckies," is a renowned surf spot located about one kilometer offshore from Nemberala on Rote Island, Indonesia. This advanced-level wave features short, intense, and hollow right-hand reef breaks that produce fast barrels and occasional easier take-off walls. The outside section is characterized by uneven reef shelves creating sharp, shallow reef breaks with powerful barrels on bigger swells, while the rights calm into shoulder-high walls over a sandy reef channel, offering intermediates space to sit wide and avoid the heavy barrels. A smaller left on the outside peak provides quick rides before shutting down on the straight reef. Accessible only by boat, Sucky Mamas offers a unique open-ocean surfing experience in pristine, tranquil surroundings with uncrowded lineups. The spot is best surfed at mid to high tide with solid south to southwest swells and offshore winds from the east to northeast. Surfers should exercise caution due to the sharp, shallow coral reef and strong currents, and be well-prepared for emergencies given the spot’s remote location.
