Surf spot guide · La Réunion, France
Manapany is a powerful reef break on La Réunion's south coast with challenging waves and stunning scenery.
Manapany is a renowned surf spot located on the rugged southern coast of La Réunion, in Saint-Joseph sector. It is a peaky volcanic rock/reef break adjacent to the rock-protected natural basin. It most often breaks as an A-frame with lefts and rights, producing steep, fast sections that can turn hollow with tube potential when S–SW groundswell and lower tides align. The reef is relatively stable, so day-to-day quality is driven mainly by swell direction/period, wind, and tide height. Strong currents, exposed rocks, and the ever-present risk of sharks are notable hazards here. The spot is uncrowded due to its challenging nature and local etiquette. Access requires a careful walk over rocks, and local knowledge is recommended.
