Sand-bottom beachbreak spread across roughly 700 meters of Niteroi coastline, split into three named peaks. Costao at the north end throws lefts, Meio holds real weight through the middle, and Pampo at the west end fires rights that sharpen on SW swell. Shifting sandbars produce thick, hollow, fast barrels that can close into sudden air-drops once the swell has size. It holds anything from ankle-high ripples to well overhead and has hosted stops on Brazil's World Bodyboard Circuit. A righthand reef off the southern headland, dense with urchins, pulls the bodyboard crowd away from the main peaks. A pushing tide paired with a north wind is the standout combination, though the banks produce rideable waves across the full tide cycle. Expect a packed lineup any day of the week, with a local crew that holds priority in the more powerful outside sets. Less experienced surfers tend to head north to the mellower banks at Piratininga and Camboinhas instead.
