Posto 5 is the exposed core of Copacabana's 4km beach, a shifting sand-bottom a-frame that peels both ways off sandbars reshaped by every swell. On a strong E to S groundswell the peaks jack up fast, bowl, and wrap into critical, barreling takeoffs in the ditches scattered along this stretch. It sits more open to swell and wind than the water off Posto 6 to the south, so it holds more size, and a westerly wind stands the faces up cleanly. Copacabana is one of the most recognized beaches on the planet, and Posto 5 hosts stages of the state surfing championship. Entry is a straightforward sand walk off Avenida Atlantica, no rocks or channel to navigate, though the shorebreak turns punchy and fast at lower tide once swell size builds. The lineup is rarely thin and consistency is only moderate, so waiting periods between sets are common while the peak shifts with the sandbanks. For a calmer wave, Posto 6 sits just south; for fast, hollow suck-out lefts, Leme is a short walk north.
