Waimea Bay is a legendary surf break on Oahu’s North Shore, renowned for its massive winter waves reaching 20-30 feet. The spot is a birthplace of big-wave surfing, attracting elite surfers from around the world. Waves break over a deep water reef and beach, creating powerful, fast-moving walls and occasional barrels. Strong currents and shorebreak make it hazardous even for experienced surfers. The bay is generally flat in summer but comes alive with huge, rideable surf from November to March. Crowds and spectators are common during large swell events and surf contests.
