Panama Rights.

Panama Rights is a right-hand point that only comes alive when the rivermouth closes and enough sand builds between the island and the point. Without that sand the outside section is a haphazard field of boulders and is usually unsurfable. With it, small lines bend into the protected bay in front of the beached fishing boats and form a full, forgiving wall that suits easy takeoffs, cutbacks and cruising, which is why improvers, longboarders and intermediates get the most out of it. It breaks at about half the size of the prevailing swell, so it needs a moderate southerly pulse to be worth the trip, and it prefers a tide pushing up towards high. Late season, when the sand has really stacked up, the sandbar can run for 300 metres and the outside links through, though that version is powerful and sucky and the rocks are unforgiving. Adept surfers will usually find it too fat and slow.
