Arugam Beach, located on Sri Lanka’s southeast coast, is renowned for its gentle, sandy-bottom waves and warm tropical waters. The spot is especially popular with beginners and longboarders, but intermediates also enjoy the playful, peeling walls. Surf sessions are best from April to October, when consistent swells hit the bay. Crowds can be significant during peak season, especially in the mornings. The beach is easily accessible and surrounded by a friendly surf community, with plenty of lessons and rentals available. Watch out for strong currents on bigger days and respect local etiquette in the lineup.
