Los Alamos is a long sand-bottom beachbreak north of Torremolinos on the Costa del Sol, producing shifting left and right peaks that run slow, crumbly and well-covered rather than punchy or hollow. The wave needs an easterly or south-easterly fetch to build size, with the most consistent window from E through S on swells between 0.3 and 1.5m. Unusually, the spot needs onshore winds to keep banks holding shape - without that push the wave sections and shuts down. Rides are short, rarely exceeding 50m. The main access point is the beach in front of Hotel Costa Lago, where walk-in entry is straightforward and no facilities exist at the break. The resort strip of Torremolinos sits just to the south. The spot has grown in popularity and can draw crowds relative to the limited Mediterranean swell window, with a local crew protective of the better peaks. Expect company whenever conditions align, particularly on weekends and summer evenings.
Onshore wind holds the banks; without it, the wave sections and dies.
Surf spot guide · Mediterranean Spain, Spain
Slow, crumbly beachbreak north of Torremolinos producing short peaks on onshore Mediterranean swells.
Crowds are moderate to heavy when waves are present, particularly around the hotel access point. The limited swell frequency concentrates surfers into short active windows.
Busy resort beachbreak
Time sessions to coincide with a fresh E or SE swell pushing 0.5m or more - the spot can be flat for days
Arrive early on weekdays to avoid the weekend crowd that builds quickly around the Hotel Costa Lago peak
The wave is best suited to longboards or funboards given the slow, crumbly nature of the break
Check the full length of the beach rather than locking in to the main peak - banks can shift and quieter sections exist further north
