Faja dos Cubres.

Faja dos Cubres is a world-class left point break wrapping along a boulder shoreline on the north coast of Sao Jorge in the Azores. Three distinct sections connect on a NW swell to produce reputedly the longest left in Portugal, with runs exceeding 500m. The wave is powerful and hollow, running at freight-train pace with wide open barrel sections. It breaks close to the rocks, generating boils and exposing dry boulders on smaller swells. The takeoff is critical with no room to hesitate. Low to incoming tide with a SW wind is the sweet spot; the break is very exposed on the outside and bigger surf removes all margin. The swell window spans W through NE but it fires only on a solid NW pulse. Entry timing is manageable if you read the sets, but exit is the harder problem - sweeping currents and whitewash through boulders make board and body damage routine. Several quality lefts cluster within 4km, including Faja do Belo and Lago do Linho, offering alternatives when this wave closes out.
