Makorori Point delivers a lengthy right-hander that wraps around the southern end of Makorori Beach, breaking over a mix of uneven reef and sand. The wave stretches 200-500m on a good day, offering slow-to-medium-paced walls built for drawn-out turns and cutbacks. On SE-S swells the wave is mellow and forgiving, attracting longboarders who milk every section. When NE-E swells arrive, the wave transforms -- shoulders tighten into faster walls with hollower sections and genuine power. The paddle out is long, which filters the crowd somewhat, though the local longboard crew are territorial about their waves and drop-ins are common. Patches of rock stud the inside sections and can catch surfers out at low tide. North of the point, quality beachbreak peaks at Centres and Creeks offer alternatives that spread the crowd across the beach. The wave improves as swell size increases, and it handles everything from knee-high rollers to solid overhead-plus days.
