Pangandaran is a classic beach break located on the south coast of West Java, Indonesia, featuring a five-mile-long beach with numerous sandbar and beach break peaks, as well as some reef breaks near the national park. The spot offers multiple peaks with mellow waves, making it perfect for beginners and intermediate surfers. The central beach tends to have larger waves, while the eastern end near the nature reserve is ideal for beginners. The best conditions occur with reliable south or southwest swells, particularly from April to September, combined with mid to high tides and light offshore winds from the east or northeast, which provide glassy surf. Crowds can be moderate, especially on weekends and holidays, but the long beach provides plenty of room and a welcoming local surf scene known for Javanese hospitality. Watch out for strong currents and shorebreak, particularly during bigger swells. The area is easily accessible by bus, train, or nearby airport, with local surf schools and board rentals readily available near the main beach area.
