La Courance.

La Courance is a sandy beach break that produces short, hollow peaks with a distinct wedging character - bowly and punchy rather than long and peeling. The wave quality comes from the way swells hit the beach at an angle, creating rapid sections that suit bodyboarders and skimboarders more than those chasing long rides. A more organised peak can form near the point when SW to NW swells combine with the right sandbank, offering something with a little more shape. The break is at its best from low through to mid tide, when the hollow sections are most defined; at high tide the shorebreak loses structure, though the soft right-handers of Grand Traict to the north become an option worth checking. Being one of the few surf-accessible beaches south of La Baule, La Courance draws a consistent local following and gets busy on good days, particularly on weekends when surfers from nearby towns make the drive out. The crowd is a mix of bodyboarders, skimboarders and beginner-to-intermediate shortboarders. The spot is well-signed from Sainte-Marguerite. A note on water quality: proximity to estuary and river drainage means conditions can deteriorate after significant rainfall.
