Cenitz.

Cenitz is a small rocky bay sitting between Guéthary and Acotz on the Basque coast, offering multiple distinct peaks over an uneven reef and sand bottom. The most reliable feature is a defined left on the northern edge of the bay, but the spot also produces a workable A-frame peak in the middle section at higher tides, and a lively right that comes into its own when the swell pushes above 1.5m. The wave character is middling - shoulders can be soft and sections don't always link, making it frustrating on average days. That said, it improves noticeably with more north in the swell and around head-high size, when the shape tightens and the ride extends. It needs a peaky swell and enough tide to prevent the sets from closing out across the shelf. Boils and flat spots are part of the experience, reflecting the irregular reef beneath. Incoming tide tends to produce the most workable conditions. The bay sits in a well-known stretch of the Basque coastline surrounded by world-class waves, which keeps it from being a destination in itself but makes it a worthwhile option when neighbours are maxed out or too crowded. Access from both Guéthary and Acotz involves narrow winding roads, and parking is genuinely limited - arriving early is the practical solution. The scattered rocks across the shelf rule it out for beginners regardless of tide.
