Bidart's central beach is a mixed reef-and-sand break producing a-frame peaks with left and right options across a varied bottom. The wave leans mellow and slopey with boily sections that can steepen unpredictably, particularly at lower tides when the uneven reef becomes more influential. Rides are short - typically under 50m - with the best action split between occasional fast outside walls and punchy shorebreak hooks on the inside. The break closes out quickly in larger swells but delivers genuinely fun surf in the 0.5-2m range on its better days. The Uhabia river drains onto the northern end of the beach and introduces significant water quality issues after rainfall. Entry is straightforward from the main beach, though rocks become exposed at low tide and require careful navigation. Surf schools operate here consistently, filling the lineup with learners and local club members throughout the season - crowds are a near-constant reality. It fires best on clean NW swell with SE winds keeping conditions tidy. Consistency is high, meaning the beach rarely sits empty for long. The surrounding Basque coast offers superior alternatives at Parlementia, Erretegia, and Guéthary for surfers seeking more quality away from the crowds.
