Mellow right-hand reef wave that turns punchy and occasionally hollow on north swells.
Turtle Bay West is a predominantly right-hand reef wave on the eastern edge of Kawela Bay. It is generally a crumbling, longboard-friendly wave on smaller days. A proper north swell makes the same wave steeper, more powerful, and capable of producing barrel sections. It works through all tide stages and is most reliable from November through February, while summer can be mostly flat. The reef and changing power make it best suited to intermediate surfers.
