High Waves
Large waves up to 2.1m expected at Wainyapu. Peak conditions around 6:00 PM.

Wainjapu offers a mix of lefts and rights breaking over reef near Sumba’s main town, best suited to smaller swells and lighter winds. The waves are generally mellow by Indo standards, producing short, workable walls rather than heavy barrels. The left-hander breaks along the southern reef, providing long, rippable walls, while the right is a punchy, wedging peak over a shallower northern reef section. Both waves are highly tide-dependent and perform best with solid S–SW swells combined with light easterly winds. Access varies between reef and sand entries, with the left wave featuring a keyhole entry at higher tides and the right requiring careful navigation over shallow reef. This uncrowded spot offers a raw, adventurous experience and is ideal for intermediate to advanced surfers seeking solitude when the main reefs are too big or wind-affected.
