Turtles is a mellow and accessible left-hand reef break located on the southern edge of the Banyak Islands off North Sumatra, offering long, workable walls and a high wave count. It provides a fun alternative to heavier waves in the region, ideal for intermediate surfers building confidence on reef breaks as well as advanced surfers seeking performance sections. The wave works on all tides, with mid tide being optimal, and performs best with south to southwest swells combined with easterly to northeasterly winds. Access is typically by boat charter, and the friendly reef setup is less hazardous than many other Indonesian spots. Crowds are generally low, creating a relaxed and uncrowded atmosphere for surfers.
