Gunturs, also known as Joysticks, is a right-hand coral-reef and point-style wave in Bay of Plenty. It offers a bowly takeoff tube, a mechanical wall with several turns, and an inside bowl that can barrel, with sections linking on favourable swell. Larger surf can shift the wave onto an outer-reef ledge with heavier barrels. Southwest swell works best, while north to northeast winds provide clean conditions; the wave can break through all tide stages and benefits from an incoming push. Small surf suits solid intermediates, while head-high and larger conditions demand advanced positioning, commitment, and tube-riding.
