Surf spot guide · Sumatra Islands, Indonesia
The Machine — Nias
The Machine is an ultra-hollow lefthand barrel tucked deep inside the bay. It now requires huge swells combined with spring high tides to even attempt a ride. A new mid-wave kink has made linking through to the channel unlikely, turning what was once a makeable tube into a near-impossible challenge. Sobatu, a lesser left within walking distance to the west, also needs very large swells to work. Closer to Teluk Dalam, Rivermouth and the outer harbour reefs offer sketchy alternatives.
A lefthand barrel so hollow the bay itself now guards it from mere mortals.
