Vaucottes.

Vaucottes sits wedged between the towering chalk cliffs of the Côte d'Albâtre, a small shingle and rock cove that would be easy to miss entirely. The beach is compact, transitioning from pebble to a shelf of boulders, and the waves it produces reflect that setup: slow, crumbly, well-covered peaks that back off readily and lack the punch of more exposed breaks. Flat spots are common in the lineup. On most swells this is firmly mellow territory, suited to surfers learning to read shifting takeoff zones. The exception comes with large SW groundswell, when a proper left peels across the boulder section - longer, more defined, and capable of holding genuine size in the 1.5-2.5m range. W to NW swells are the primary fuel, with NE windchop also activating the peaks at times. Low to rising tide is the window: as the tide fills, the boulder hazards submerge and the wave loses what little shape it had. Being nestled in a cliff gap offers some natural wind shelter, and SE winds are ideal. The spot rarely draws more than a handful of surfers, partly because the waves are unremarkable and partly because Yport, just over a kilometre east, tends to pull the more experienced crowd with its superior left. Entry and exit require navigating loose shingle and watching for exposed rocks along the margins.
