Sainte Adresse is an urban beachbreak running along the base of the Cap de la Hève cliffs at the northern tip of Le Havre's seafront. The waves are slow, crumbly a-frame peaks breaking over a sandy bottom - forgiving, sloping faces in the 0.3-1.8m range that offer little punch or power. Lefts tend to dominate when the angle is favourable. To produce anything rideable, the spot needs a genuine W or NW groundswell to wrap around the Cotentin Peninsula and drive energy into this east-facing stretch of coast - a geometry that keeps good sessions rare. High tide is the only viable window; lower stages flatten the break out considerably. Water quality is persistently poor due to estuary and river runoff throughout the Le Havre area, which is a real consideration before paddling out. As the most convenient surf in the city, it attracts local beginners and improvers whenever conditions align, producing moderate crowds without ever becoming seriously packed. The break's main value is accessibility - it exists as a quick option for Le Havre residents rather than a destination worth travelling to, with better Normandy options requiring a drive further along the coast.
