Praia Brava is the mainland beach Angra dos Reis actually surfs, a short sand-bottom peak tucked inside the Eletronuclear residential village near Mambucaba. Rights and lefts break close to shore on SW through SE swell, working from around half a meter, holding up to 2m and breaking across the whole tide cycle. Rides are short and the wave carries modest power by open-coast standards, which is why the local surf school teaches here and junior contest divisions run on this sand. This is the heart of Angra's small surf scene: the ASA surf association stages its Nas Ondas da Brava contests at the beach and lifeguards are posted daily. Temper expectations if you are coming from Rio, because the bay sits in Ilha Grande's swell shadow and the wave is more session-saver than destination. Rocks mix into the sand and a small river meets the sea at the end of the beach, so scan the lineup before your first paddle out.

HAZARDS · KNOW BEFORE YOU PADDLE
The beach sits inside the Eletronuclear residential village near Mambucaba, reached from the BR-101 Rio-Santos: show ID at the village gate, park near the entrance, then a short walk to the sand. Visitors are welcome and the beach has daily lifeguards, but infrastructure is limited, so bring water and food.
