Surf spot guide · Costa Verde, Brazil
A hollow, heavy left breaking over a submerged rock slab off Ilha da Gipoia, reachable only by boat from Angra dos Reis.
Laje do Dramin is a submerged rock and reef slab roughly 250 meters off Ilha da Gipoia, near Ponta Juruba in the Baia da Ilha Grande. A sudden drop in depth over the flat, elongated ledge throws up a fast, hollow left that can hold size up to 2.5 meters on the right south swell, with a rare right occasionally working on a big southwest push. It only comes alive when a southwest to southeast swell wraps into this pocket of the sheltered bay, so sessions are occasional rather than regular. Surfer and marine biologist Dennys Rosa is credited with pioneering the wave, and it hosted a bodyboard invitational in 2010 that put the name on the regional map. There is no channel and no shore access: reaching the lineup means chartering a boat out of Angra dos Reis. The reef is shallow, sharp, and holds urchins, with hammerhead sharks occasionally reported nearby, so this is strictly advanced territory. Crowds stay thin given the access and difficulty.

Only a handful of surfers make the boat trip out on any given day, even when the swell is right.
Heavy, remote, boat-only
Charter a boat from Angra dos Reis harbor since there is no way to paddle out from shore.
Southwest to southeast swell is what wakes this reef up, so check the forecast before booking a boat.
Low to mid tide keeps the ledge working; it fattens out and loses shape once the tide pushes higher.
Wear reef boots and expect urchins on the rock bottom, especially around the takeoff.
