The spot works best with north to northeast swell and light southerly winds, producing fast, barreling rides over a shallow reef. Due to its power and shallow bottom, Hallows is best suited for experienced surfers comfortable in challenging conditions. Crowds can be an issue, especially during prime swell periods and weekends. Access is relatively straightforward, but awareness of local etiquette is important. The wave can get heavy and dangerous when the swell is large.
