Carolles is a low-key beach break at Carolles-plage, a small coastal village south of Julouville in the Manche department. The wave breaks over a mixed bottom of rock ledge and sand, producing slow, crumbly peaks that well up and peel without much shape or power. At its best it offers gentle a-frame peaks in the 0.3-1.8m range, making it a reasonable option for beginners on the right day, though the quality ceiling is low. Being tucked south of Granville means this stretch of coast sits in a swell shadow for anything other than W-NW energy; easterlies and northerlies that might clean up spots further up the peninsula offer little here unless the swell has genuine westerly angle. Patches of reef scattered across the sandy bottom provide occasional structure that lifts the wave slightly, but the dominant character is mushy and unpredictable. The cliffs above the beach offer a good vantage point to read whether the shorebreak is producing anything rideable before committing to the paddle-out - worth using given how variable the conditions can be. Car parking is available nearby with free roadside and car park options. The lineup is almost always quiet, which suits the mellower nature of the wave.
