Les Longchamps.

Les Longchamps is a broad sandy beach break on the Brittany coast that produces a-frame peaks with a preference for rights. The wave is generally forgiving - well-covered, medium-paced and prone to crumbling sections rather than barrelling walls - making it a natural gathering point for beginners and improvers. Banks shift with conditions but can deliver surprisingly hollow sections when the sand aligns correctly; more often the result is a soft, rolling mushburger driven onshore by the prevailing winds. A solid W to NW swell is the key ingredient, and a spring incoming tide noticeably jacks up the wave height and face quality. The beach functions across all tides, though the incoming phase rewards patience. Directly to the west, the Garde-Guérin reef offers a change of scenery - a capricious break that needs a moderate W swell to show life over its scattered rocks, and any southerly airflow will flip offshore. Further out on the headland, Dame Jouanne is an altogether different proposition: a raw ledge that sucks dry at low tide and punishes mistakes, reserved strictly for experienced surfers and the tight local crew that polices it. Access to the Garde-Guérin section runs beside the golf course. The main beach is accessible from the car park with free parking and shower facilities. Crowds are moderate and present - the spot is known locally, and a degree of territorial awareness exists in the lineup.
