Surf spot guide Β· Mediterranean, France
Sheltered French Riviera reef break producing short, punchy peaks on rare E-S swells.
Eze breaks over an uneven reef on the French Riviera, producing short peaks in both directions when an east to south swell aligns with the coastline. The waves are shallow and steep with a crumbly character, welling up through the reef to deliver punchy rides rarely exceeding 50 meters. Sheltered by the surrounding geography, the spot demands a solid E swell to even register - consistency is low and most days the sea sits flat. When it connects, the 0.6-1.8m range keeps things manageable, but the shallow and sharp reef underneath demands respect on any wipeout. All tides are surfable, with a NW wind providing clean offshore conditions. Despite its rarity, the break pulls a regular crowd who know exactly when to show up, making timing the key variable. Free parking is available roadside and in a nearby car park, with the reef accessed directly off the coastal road. The Menton alternative to the east was eliminated by breakwater construction, leaving Eze as one of the few functioning options on this stretch of coast - with Ventimiglia just across the Italian border serving as the next viable fallback when conditions push further east.
