The bay at Lumio, sheltered beneath the citadel of Calvi, packages several distinct waves into one accessible stretch of the La Balagne coastline. The standout is a right-hand point working off a flat slab reef near l'Arinella and the historic Genoese Tower - when a solid W to NW swell pushes in and the wind swings SE, the reef can produce genuine tube sections in the 0.3-1.8m range, with the deep-water channel making entry and exit straightforward for intermediate surfers. The same bay hosts a separate beachbreak peak over mixed reef and sand fronting the Pain de Sucre area, where the wave is more forgiving but scattered rock patches keep the shorebreak lively at lower tides. At the southern end of the bay, the Sainte-Restitude beach and its rivermouth add a third option - the rivermouth can shape a well-defined peak when conditions align, though the bottom shifts seasonally. All three sections share the same swell window, and the bay's orientation means boat traffic is a real consideration during summer months. The area rarely fires with consistency - it rewards patience and timing over regular sessions. Jellyfish and sea lice are periodic nuisances, particularly in warmer months.
