Farinole sits along the rugged western flank of Cap Corse, where a band of uneven reef grips the sandy bottom and shapes a genuine a-frame peak at the northern end of the beach. That reef influence is what separates this from the close-out-prone beachbreaks further south - it organizes the sand, reduces section after section of unrideable walls, and produces lefts and rights with enough shape to hold intermediate surfers' interest. The wave runs at medium pace, tends crumbly to hollow depending on swell angle, and carries a welling-up quality that gives it a bit more push than the size suggests. It works across all tides, though the shallow sections demand awareness when the water drops. The spot fires on westerly through northerly swells, with the W-NW quadrant typically delivering the most organized lines into the bay. Onshore conditions can get lumpy, but the surrounding headlands provide some degree of wind shelter in the right scenario. Access is straightforward - free carpark directly at the beach makes this one of the more practical options along the cape. Surfers based in Bastia regularly make the run here rather than navigate the rocky, less consistent breaks on the island's eastern side. Crowds sit at a moderate level given the drive required and the relatively narrow swell window, but the spot is not unknown. North of here, cliffs and steep stony shoreline shut down most surf options, making Farinole something of a northern terminus for the accessible Cap Corse breaks.
