Punta Prima is a sand-bottom beachbreak located at the southeastern tip of Menorca, sitting in a natural channel between the main beach and the offshore island of illa de l'Aire. The break picks up swells from a wide arc spanning N through SW, making it most productive when strong Tramontana winds generate northerly energy across the open Mediterranean. The island of l'Aire screens out southerly swells, so the spot is primarily a winter and autumn venue that lies dormant through most of the summer flat season. Waves peel in long, organised walls measuring 50 to 100 metres, breaking over sand with enough shape to allow cutback-oriented surfing. The peaks alternate left and right as the sandbanks shift. Wave size typically stays between 0.3 and 1.8 metres and the spot never becomes genuinely heavy, making it a relaxed environment for intermediate surfers looking for extended rides rather than critical sections. The channel geometry keeps takeoffs manageable and exits relatively straightforward even for those returning after a season out of the water. The surrounding resort town fills with tourists throughout summer and the beach draws heavy crowds on weekends with any swell, but the water stays strikingly clear year-round regardless of visitor numbers. Windsurfers are a regular presence and share the break on windier days. Free car parking is available directly at the beach.
