Scott Point is a swell magnet at the northern terminus of 90 Mile Beach, suited to adventurous, self-sufficient surfers who can handle remote conditions and unpredictable ocean. The spot faces into virtually every swell angle - S through N - with NW being the optimal direction, making it one of the most omnidirectional breaks in New Zealand. On most days the reality is a wind and swell-pounded mess, but when small swell combines with light winds, the beach can produce workable A-frame peaks with a messy right in the lee of the headland. NE winds provide the best offshore conditions. The spot catches everything, though quality sessions are far less frequent. This is genuine solo-surfing territory, and the only other people you're likely to see are fishermen. Rip currents are the primary hazard; the isolation means no safety net if something goes wrong. An intermediate-level wave at minimum, primarily due to the remote access and ocean conditions rather than wave difficulty.
