Long, ultra-fast right-hand point known as 'Garden' that fires perfect throaty barrels on solid swell at low tide.
Safi is a right-hand point break sitting just north of the industrial port city of the same name on Morocco's central Atlantic coast. The wave, known locally as 'Garden', peels for 200 to 500 metres along an uneven reef and sand bottom, wrapping with power and delivering long, hollow barrels that hold well above head-high. Speed is the defining trait, with fast, freight-train sections and a shallow inside that boils over the reef on the wrong sets. Critical takeoffs and a near-permanent barrel section make it a wave for confident, fit surfers only. It is one of the most celebrated points in Africa, but also one of the most fickle: it only fires when a large NW or W groundswell wraps in and the tide drops, conditions that line up a handful of times each winter. Sidi Bouzid just north offers an easier alternative on smaller days. A free car park on the cliff overlooks the lineup, and crowds gather fast when it turns on, though the old hardline localism has softened.

When the point is on, the lineup fills quickly with experienced locals and visiting travellers, and the narrow takeoff zone leaves little room to spread out. Old-school localism has eased in recent years but priority is still earned, not given.
