Dieppe.

Dieppe is a boulder-bottom left that breaks east of the ferry port on mid to high tides, sheltered by the port infrastructure from westerly winds - one of the more reliable spots in upper Normandy when W winds shut down exposed beaches. The wave is mellow and slow, building over a well-covered bottom with flat spots and some backwash character. Functional rather than high-performance, it runs 50-100m and works in a swell window spanning W through NW, with the occasional NE swell unlocking a separate setup at the south jetty worth investigating. Entry is via the concrete block seawall - walk out to a suitable launch point before jumping in, as the footing demands attention. Ferry wakes from the active port add an unusual variable: the wash can produce additional rideable bumps but also creates real hazards in the harbour zone. Water quality near the port is unreliable and deteriorates significantly after rainfall. The wave suits intermediates comfortable with harbour environments and non-conventional entry. Crowds sit at a middling level - busy enough at times but not overwhelming. When bigger swell arrives, Mers-les-Bains near Le Treport is the recognised regional step-up.
