Wissant.

Wissant is a wide, NW-facing sandy beach break sitting roughly 20km southwest of Calais, fully exposed to Atlantic swell energy funnelling through the English Channel. Peaks form at various points along the beach, offering both left and right options from the same takeoff, with waves tending toward the mellow and crumbly end of the spectrum rather than hollow or powerful. The wave face backs off through the section and the rides are short, typically under 50 meters. It works best on W and SW swells of moderate size, with a light southerly wind keeping the face clean. From mid-tide through high is the preferred window, with incoming tide generally the most consistent phase. Summer is largely flat. Inconsistency is the defining trait here - this is not a reliable destination session. Free car parking is available nearby, and a windsurfer webcam provides a useful live read on current conditions before committing to a paddle. The crowd is rarely an issue given how infrequently it fires. Rip currents are present and worth monitoring, especially when any size is running. The neighbouring beach at Tardinghen, a few kilometres south, is worth checking at the same time as conditions can vary noticeably between the two.
