Wimereux delivers two distinct experiences in close proximity. The main town beach produces average sand-bottom peaks on medium swells, offering crumbly, mellow shoulders that suit those building confidence in the water. Waves are well-covered and slopey rather than steep, breaking at medium pace with flat spots typical of a sheltered beach setup. The real draw is Pointe des Oies, a small reef sitting just north of the main beach with a full westward orientation that turns it into a reliable swell funnel. Any SW energy wrapping around the point can produce noticeably better, more defined waves than what the beach is delivering at the same moment. The spot works best from mid to high tide on the incoming push. Wind is the critical variable - SE winds groom both the beach and the point well, but westerly winds above roughly 20km/h blow everything out quickly given the exposure. The beach provides straightforward paddle access, while entry at the point requires negotiating mussel-covered rocks along the shore. As a beginner-friendly stretch in northern France with free parking and road access, Wimereux sees a mixed crowd on good days. Nearby alternatives include Audreselles to the north and Cap Gris-Nez further up the coast for more exposed, powerful conditions.
