Surf spot guide Β· South Morocco, Morocco
Remote right-hand pointbreak at Km25 south of Tarfaya, shallow and cylindrical, holds big W to N swells.
Yoyo is a right-hand point at the Km25 marker on the desert coast south of Tarfaya in Western Sahara. The wave wraps over an uneven reef shelf, running fast through a series of steep sections with vertical takeoffs and inside barrel sections that boil over the shallowest rock. Faces stand up steep on the takeoff then build into 200-500 metre walls when the swell direction lines up, with welling-up power on the better sets. The point comes alive on solid W through N groundswell from 0.9m up to its 2.4m ceiling, with a clean easterly offshore peeling the faces. Consistency is high through the autumn and winter window. There is no town, no shop and no lifeguard at the spot. A sketchy unmarked track off the main southern highway is the only way in, which is why crowds rarely materialise beyond a handful of travelling surfers. The neighbouring breaks at Casamar and Tarfaya, around 8 to 9 kilometres up the coast, offer mellower alternatives when the point is overpowered.

Effectively empty most days. The remote desert access and lack of any nearby town mean only travelling surfers in the know turn up, often surfing it solo or in groups of two or three.
Empty desert pointbreak
Drive in early - the desert track is hard to read in fading light and there are no markers
Time the visit to a solid W to NW groundswell with a clean easterly offshore for the best walls
Bring full self-recovery kit including water, spare tyre and food, there are no services along the track
Stage from Tarfaya for the closest accommodation and fuel before heading south to the Km25 turnoff
