Hatainville.

Hatainville is a broad beachbreak that stretches along a largely undeveloped section of the Cotentin Peninsula's west coast, bordered by high sand dunes. The break is anchored between the rocky outcrops of Le Poux to the north and the Carteret lighthouse to the south, with a sandy point at Hatainville itself marking the midpoint. Peaks shift constantly along this exposed stretch, producing peaks that are generally well-covered and slopey rather than hollow or powerful, with a medium-speed wall that suits progressive intermediate surfing rather than barrel hunting. The wave depth data confirms a full, well-covered face with occasional steep sections, and the power profile sits on the fat-to-slopey end of the spectrum with a tendency to well up on the better sets. At its best on a solid SW to NW groundswell at mid to incoming tide, the break can hit well overhead and deliver workable runs in the 0-50m range. Rip currents are the primary hazard across the whole zone and are consistently noted as strong regardless of swell size. The surrounding dunes and relatively low development keep the atmosphere calm and uncrowded most of the year. Surfers looking for a gentler introduction to the area can cross to Barneville-Carteret to check the more sheltered and mellow peaks accessible from the boardwalk.
