Praia da Grama.

Praia da Grama is an artificial wave pool, not an ocean break. It sits inside the Fazenda da Grama private estate in Itupeva, about an hour north of São Paulo, and it was the first Wavegarden built in Brazil and in Latin America when it opened on 1 July 2021. The lagoon runs a 52-module Wavegarden Cove 2.0, the second-largest configuration in the world at the time it was built, and it produces waves in four zones: two reef areas either side of a central pier, and two bay areas where those waves reform. Rights break on one side of the pier and lefts on the other, so a session works both forehand and backhand. The machine holds a wave every eight seconds and up to a thousand waves an hour, from half a metre to two metres, and the operator picks the setting for the whole session. That is the thing to understand before booking: there is no forecast to read and no window to time. You choose a level and the wave arrives. The published menu runs from The Bays at half a metre, soft and slow for a first stand-up, through Waikiki and the four Malibu settings for longboarding and trimming, into Turns 1 to 3 at 1.7 to 1.9 metres for shortboard turns, then Barrel 1 and 2, and finally The Beast and The Big Beast at up to two metres, which the manufacturer reserves for expert tube riders. Access is the catch. This is a members and guests facility inside a gated residential estate, not a public surf park, and sessions are capped and booked in advance. Brazil's Championship Tour surfers tested it before it opened, and in late 2023 it hosted the final stage of the Circuito Banco do Brasil, the first WSL Qualifying Series event ever run in a wave pool in Latin America.

The only lineup in the book where the wave is a setting, not a forecast.
